2015 Whistles on the Water - Revisited:

We were clearing up some space on our hard drives this week (making room for more offshore videos) when we came across some iON camera footage of the 2015 Whistles on the Water event in St. Clair, Michigan. We had posted a video shot with one of our Canon cameras before and it was a hit on the local Facebook groups. This time, we took the iON Camera footage, left it unedited in its RAW format. There is almost two hours of the event uploaded to YouTube (which you can see above). We also reposted our Canon video below so you can see that as well.

Whistles on the Water is an annual event along the St. Clair River that loudly celebrates Michigan's maritime history. Over 100 steam whistles, many from ships that serviced ports here in the St. Clair River and Lake Huron, are blown throughout the day, sharing the sounds of their beloved past when lake and river travel was powered by steam.

According to Dave Michelson, who narrates the event. Captains tuned their whistles to produce unique sounds that allowed other captains and lay listeners to identify specific ships without seeing them - in fog banks, for example.
